Review: When Richa (Sanya Malhotra) meets Diwakar (Nishant Dahiya) in an arranged marriage set-up, sparks fly. Once married, Richa dutifully begins to help her mother-in-law in the kitchen, preparing elaborate meals for the family. Mornings begin with her father-in-law (Kanwaljit Singh) and husband having freshly prepared breakfast at the dining table, while the women serve them hot rotis, from the kitchen. And evenings end with a pile of dirty dishes in the sink, that the women wash up. While her father-in-law seems to be mostly busy reading or going for walks, Diwakar, a gynae by profession, spends long hours at his clinic or playing squash to unwind.

As days pass, demands from the kitchen seem never-ending, with her father-in-law having strong views that restaurant food shouldn't be eaten in the house (a view that surprisingly doesn't hold when the women in the house have their periods). When Richa's mother-in-law has to travel for a few months all the kitchen responsibilities are meticulously explained and handed over to her.

Directed by Arati Kadav, 'Mrs.' is the official remake of the Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen (2021) by Jeo Baby, a film that garnered unanimous critical acclaim. 'Mrs.' follows the same story arc as the original, changing some cultural references like adding in Karwa Chauth, only to drive home the message further. The narrative subtly weaves in the shifting dynamics in relationships, the power play in traditional family set ups and the deep seated patriarchy which doesn't evade any gender. Copious amounts of beautifully composed food shots, perfectly prepared meals delicately laid out on the table, stare back at you in stark contrast to the trail of sweat, toil and often filth that it leaves behind. The build-up to Richa's final showdown as her relationship with her husband completely breaks down, is seamless, with each emotion clocking in her ticking frustration.

Sanya Malhotra impresses with a very nuanced performance that makes Richa's journey very palpable. She manages to balance the emotional switch effortlessly to show a young wife with stars in her eyes and hope in her heart being chipped away at slowly handling the daily rigours of the house, managing unrealistic expectations and her dreams getting left behind. The pleading look in her eyes speaks volumes. Nishant Dahiya is commendable in his role as Diwakar, with all the shades to his character and Kanwaljit Singh is dependable as always.

For those who haven't watched the original, "Mrs" is a must watch. Especially for its affecting, potent and provocative storytelling which drives home the subtle, everyday patriarchal and societal norms that turn a blind eye to a woman's desires, wants and needs.

Director: Parker Finn
Writers: Parker Finn
Release Date: September 22, 2022
Language: English, Spanish

REVIEW: Initially appearing as a standard spookfest, at its core, ‘Smile’ offers a disturbingly creepy proposition. Writer & director Parker Finn takes an otherwise comforting facial expression - a smile - and weaponises it effectively. He creates a constantly eerie atmosphere with chilling sound design, interesting camerawork that often keeps you guessing, and some disconcerting visuals likely to leave a mark. While most horror fare tends to abuse the jump scare tactic, Finn sets them up well enough to be often unpredictable.

Built around Dr Rose Cotter’s experience as a psychiatrist dealing with mental illness, the screenplay delves into her psyche, especially her history of family trauma. Everyone around Rose thinks she’s burnt out or reacting to past trauma, except for her and the audience. It’s a tried and tested formula in the genre, but Sosie Bacon is authentic and compelling in the lead role, making Rose Cotter easy to sympathise with. Jessie T. Usher convincingly plays her fiancé Trevor, with Kal Penn going against type as her concerned supervisor Dr Morgan Desai. Some other performances are frightfully freaky as well, but Sosie Bacon carries most of the film.

After its first grisly encounter, the plot loses steam with a pace likely to test some viewers’ patience. The conclusion may also be unsatisfactory and suffers from Hollywood sequelitis, leaving the door open for the grim grin to continue terrorising its unfortunate victims. Rather than further exploring the psychological impact of certain events, Parker Finn resorts to imagery to make the film unnerving. Try as he might, the writer & director cannot escape genre tropes and struggles to keep things fresh and engaging throughout. But as his first full-length feature movie, Finn proves to be a talent to watch out for. His skills, combined with Sosie Bacon’s work, make ‘Smile’ an anxiety-inducing horror watch that should make your skin crawl.

Director: James Mangold
Writers: Jez Butterworth, John Henry Butterworth, David Koepp
Release Date: June 28, 2023
Language: English, Italian, Spanish

REVIEW: As the curtains close on the legendary adventure franchise, 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' marks the grand finale, and it does so with a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and a tinge of sadness. Harrison Ford, reprising his iconic role as the intrepid archaeologist Indy, takes us on one last thrilling journey before bidding farewell to the character that has captivated audiences for decades.

Director James Mangold seems to have had one agenda for this installment - just capture the essence of Indiana Jones as an embodiment of adventure. And he sure doesn’t hold back in delivering action-packed escapades. From the opening moments, we are treated to a young and handsome Harrison Ford, exuding the charm and wit that made Indy an irresistible hero, battling enemies and saving precious artifacts and friends

One standout action sequence takes place aboard a train en route to Berlin, where Indy faces off against Nazis and the menacing villain Jürgen Voller, portrayed with palpable intensity by Mads Mikkelsen. The film takes us on a whirlwind global adventure, with each location used effectively as a backdrop for an adrenaline-pumping conflict. However, it is the elaborate chase scene set in Tangier, Morocco, that steals the show. It is undeniably one of the most exhilarating and jaw-dropping chase sequences in the entire Indiana Jones franchise, if not in cinematic history. The intense action exemplifies the tremendous effort put forth by the team behind the film. There is heavy use of special effects; some of it blends well while there are times when it sticks out as too fake with unnecessarily dark and dull frames.

The period setting, against the backdrop of World War II, is meticulously crafted, immersing viewers in the atmospheric and historically rich landscape. The attention to detail in recreating the era is commendable, transporting us back in time. While the film succeeds in capturing the spirit of Indiana Jones, it is not without its flaws. The runtime feels overly long, and the screenplay often drags, dampening the overall pacing. The writing, though intricate, fails to consistently engage, leaving certain moments feeling more laborious than thrilling. Director James Mangold and his three writers (Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp) don’t succeed in giving us a wholesome Indiana Jones experience.

It’s quite a waste of a lot of talent as all the good performances are in service of a very mediocre and soulless script. Harrison Ford, in his farewell portrayal of Indy, exudes charisma and carries the weight of the film with ease. Phoebe Waller-Bridge shines as Helena Shaw, Indy's goddaughter complementing his adventurous spirit. Mads Mikkelsen is lethal as Jürgen Voller, a highly motivated former Nazi also hired by NASA. Antonio Banderas is good as Indy's trusted and reliable friend, while young talent Ethann Isidore leaves a mark.

'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' may not be the franchise's pinnacle, but tries hard to bid a fitting farewell to this beloved series. Despite its flaws, it deserves recognition for its commitment to delivering an adventure of a lifetime.

Director: David Fincher
Writer: Alexis Nolent, Luc Jacamon, Andrew Kevin Walker
Release date: November 10, 2023
Language: English

Review: Based on Alexis Nolent and Lucky Jacamon’s French graphic novel of the same name, director David Fincher serves an engrossing neo-noir experience that requires your complete attention to revel in its impressive nuances and layers. The movie sits strangely yet marvellously between a slow-burn and a high-octane actioner. And with that quality, it’s a subversive outing in this genre. The tonality here is mostly languid, but the narrative is loaded with stunning and sleek visual appeal.

What strikes one is how the treatment is in sync with the unnamed hitman’s (Michael Fassbender) psyche. His rituals are tediously repetitive, his moods are intense, and his worldview is bleak. But right when it starts to seem a bit heavy, he unleashes merciless and masterful action and assassinations. The actor delivers both with finesse that few who return after a four-year gap (after X-Men: Dark Phoenix) can manage. You can feel his ruthlessness when he says, “My process is purely logistical,” or “Empathy is weakness. Weakness is vulnerability,” yet he goes on a manhunt across the Dominican Republic, New Orleans, Miami, New York, and Chicago after his girlfriend Magdala’s (Sophie Charlotte) attackers.

Fassbender is joined by an able cast, including Charles Parnell as his handler and lawyer Hodges, Kelly O’Malley as Dolores, and Tilda Swinton as the Expert. The tense face-off between Fassbender and Swinton deserves mention.

It’s not every day that you encounter the story of an assassin, but one of the finest aspects of the movie is how it integrates daily foibles — from references to a co-working space to how easy it is to copy key fobs thanks to online shopping or consumerism in general. The film lacks the depth and finesse of Fincher’s other works, such as Fight Club and Se7en, nor is it a fast-paced thriller. However, the quiet confidence, impactful lines, dark philosophies such as ‘fate is a placebo,’ and Erik Messerschmidt’s cinematography will keep you enthralled. All this is enhanced by a soundtrack that includes Portished’s ‘Glory Box’ and The Smiths’ tracks.

Fincher’s craft is on display here as you may not find yourself on the edge of your seat, but your mind will be constantly engaged. This is one of those movies that won’t need you to power through the slowness, even though it does seem a bit odd intermittently.

Review: Move over, Jackie Chan. Head to the back of the class, Matt Damon’s – now, honestly very yawn-inducing – Jason Bourne. Sylvester Stallone and Arnie, you are both legends and you both finally have a worthy successor. Pure action films, in this case revenge-action as a sub-genre, as this kind of movie is meant to be straightforward and to be digested by anyone whether they are ten years old or 50. Jason Statham is now the DUDE of unabashed, no-holds-barred action films. Despite the staid title like ‘mechanic’ and a plot line that is as simple as can be, Statham pulls punches – literally – like we haven’t seen in any action film this year. Okay, to be fair, at least not yet.

Statham, over the course of the many years that he has been in action cinema, seems to have honed his art to a fine level. For even a seasoned critic or a cynic looking for points to poke about, there are none in the performance that he delivers when it comes to brute action. Count the bullet shots that he fires from his 9mm with a silencer attached; he changes magazines after the chamber clicks empty. So much for realism. The plot of this film, as mentioned earlier, is simple enough for a toddler to fathom. But action junkies will get their mainline fix with this one.

And does he find redemption with his held-hostage girlfriend (Alba looks awesome, by the way) at the end of it? Go see and find out. Kick-ass action delivered here. Recommended for action lovers.

The Mummy Review: Tom Cruise manages to stay fit at the age of 54 because he spends a lot of time running in his action movies. He also endures copious amounts of physical abuse, ranging from getting beaten up to thrown around; all for our viewing pleasure, while he gets a hefty paycheck in return. It's a fair trade for the most part - these are popcorn blockbusters that are mindless fun, and everyone is reasonably entertained. So it's hardly a shocker that Cruise ends up going through his tried and tested 'Mission Impossible' motions in ‘The Mummy’.

Unfortunately, the entertainment value in this franchise-building reboot is thinly spread, leaving you feeling deprived if not cheated. This is a shoddy stab at merging action, mythology, horror and comedy resulting in conflicting tonality. Even the occasionally surprising, massive set pieces with elements flying at you in 3D, are interspersed between two-dimensional characters who exist merely to cater to movie tropes.

Cruise’s protagonist is his version of a lovable rogue, in the same vein as Indiana Jones, making some seriously questionable decisions throughout the movie. Annabelle Wallis wanders around as the damsel-in-distress in need of constant rescuing. Russell Crowe hams it up as a Nick Fury-ish leader with ambiguous motives spewing campy exposition. There’s even the sidekick (Jack Johnson) whose weary sense of humour brings out eye-rolls, amongst even more exposition. If there’s one character your eyes will be glued to, it’s Sophia Boutella. Adequately mesmerising as Ahmanet a.k.a. the mummy, she transitions from a creepy, violent monster to a seductive goddess with ease, but her impact is reduced by the screen time devoted to convincing us of Cruise and Wallis’ love angle, even though that’s devoid of any chemistry.

There’s enough gruesome eye candy, and in-your-face action to enjoy in ‘The Mummy’ if you ignore the plot holes and frustrating characters. But the first entry in Universal Pictures’ monster franchise comes across as a desperate attempt by the studio to capitalise on Hollywood’s current world-building frenzy. The amount of effort taken to construct the inevitable sequels is staggering. Admittedly, there's been some intrigue since we saw the heavily photoshopped picture of Cruise, Boutella and Crowe alongside Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem promising a lot more from the ‘Dark Universe’. But in the absence of quality writing, gripping plots and characters to truly care about, perhaps some monsters are best left buried.

Review: ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a heartfelt documentary that dives deep into the life of the beloved actor who portrayed Superman on-screen and embodied resilience off-screen. Directors Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui craft a moving narrative that interweaves Reeve’s rise to stardom with his devastating horseback riding accident in 1995, which left him paralysed. The film balances his extraordinary public life and the intimate, personal moments shared by his children, wife Dana Reeve, and close friends.

The documentary’s emotional depth is driven by interviews with Reeve’s family, including his children, Alexandra, Matthew, and Will Reeve, who reflect on the day of the accident and the profound changes it brought to their lives. Gae Exton, Reeve’s former partner and mother of two of his children, also provides rare insights into their relationship. However, Dana Reeve, his wife and steadfast caregiver, emerges as a quiet hero. Her unwavering support and compassion offer a touching reminder of the true power of love and resilience. The inclusion of home videos adds an intimate layer, showcasing the strength of their family bond even through adversity.

While Reeve’s accident was a defining moment, the film doesn’t dwell solely on the tragedy. Instead, it celebrates his journey from being a Hollywood superstar to becoming a fierce advocate for spinal cord injury research and disability rights. The use of Reeve’s own voice, narrating from his audiobook Still Me, adds a deeply personal touch, reminding viewers of his indomitable spirit.

Visually, the film blends archival footage, rare behind-the-scenes clips of Reeve’s Superman, and innovative CGI to symbolise his paralysis through the metaphor of Kryptonite—a clever nod to his most famous role. The animated sequences depicting Reeve as a superhero confronting his own vulnerabilities are a creative highlight.

The documentary also features candid interviews with Reeve’s close friends, including Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon, and Jeff Daniels. Their stories—especially those about his friendships with fellow Juilliard classmates like Robin Williams—reveal a multifaceted Reeve, one who was both humble and deeply ambitious.

Despite the sombre tone, Super/Manis ultimately an uplifting film. It reinforces the idea that heroism isn’t about superhuman powers but about perseverance, empathy, and overcoming life’s greatest challenges. Christopher and Dana Reeve embodied these values, and their legacy continues through their children and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

While the documentary may leave some viewers wanting to know more about Reeve’s pre-accident career or more details about his family relationships, it succeeds in portraying the essence of his character. This is a touching tribute to a man who, despite unimaginable hardship, found the strength to inspire others.

Review: ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018) caught everyone off guard with its critical success, raising the stakes with sky-high expectations for a compelling follow-up. Safe to say ‘Across the Spider-verse’ exceeds them all; however, this is a deeper, more mature and complex sequel.

The Morales family dynamic continues to be critical to the story, and Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) plays a more significant role this time. Shameik Moore presents a more mature version of Miles Morales, who is constantly challenged with escalating consequences for his actions. Gwen Stacy’s well-deserved backstory is given much depth through Hailee Steinfeld’s voice work. Still, it makes the opening act a bit of a mixed bag, especially with its pace and initial impact. After a somewhat stretched-out start, the film’s plot gradually takes shape to fire on all slingers, with those character beats paying off in spades.

Amidst a staggering number of Spider-People, both new and old, Spider-Punk (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya) and Pavitr Prabhakar (voiced by Karan Soni) are both memorable. The latter deserves more attention, not just for his desi vibe but because the story calls for it. Oscar Isaac’s militant take on Miguel O’Hara brings a level of darkness not often seen in mainstream animation, while Jason Schwartzman elevates Spot to well above ‘villain of the week’ status with a sneaky subtlety.

The visual aspect of this film is staggering, as the animators and artists continue to bend the limits of the medium. Each Spider-Person has its distinct visual style, extending into the universe they hail from. Embracing the comic-book style even harder this time, there’s an astonishing amount of detail in each frame and character design that sometimes gets overwhelming to absorb, but in the best way possible. Art and animation students will refer to these films for years to come.

Across the Spider-Verse’ takes the multiverse concept and pushes it to a place unprecedented with other films of its ilk. It has so much to digest with multiple stories and visual artistry that it’s impossible to assimilate everything in one viewing. Yet, the easter eggs and surprises never come at the cost of the overall plot or by pandering to fans. While setting up an essential third outing, this sequel immerses us in a far deeper and more layered story that promises to be rewarding.

Black Adam review: The flick’s plot is predictable because one has already seen enough superhero movies and then some more. The latest outing in the DC Extended Universe doesn’t have much to offer in that sense. An angry godlike superhero with a dark past, an evil ruler after a magical crystal Eternium that can create a powerful and demonic crown of Sabbac, rebels who want to free their people, and a group of superheroes who take on the mighty Teth-Adam. But, the flawless action sequences and visuals are a saving grace all along the way, from the opening sequence in ancient Kahndaq to the last.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Orphan) seems to have focused more on the film’s visual appeal than the plot or a proper backdrop for a movie launching the new Justice Society. 'Black Adam' only gives a cursory introduction and mentions the superpowers of Carter Hall/Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Kent Nelson or Dr Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Albert Rothstein or Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Maxine Hunkel or Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell). Of course, one can anticipate spin-offs and sequels to do that.

Even if one sits on the edge of the seat, the thrill gets exhausting after a point. There are too many tracks to keep track of. When you think the movie is making way for a sequel, perhaps, another subplot begins. The scenes sans these are a bit dull. Rolling Stones’s 'Paint it Black' with slow-motion scenes and explosions while introducing Black Adam and Lorne Balfe’s music are used well.

Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam is the perfect choice to play the brooding dark hero, and Pierce Brosnan as Dr Fate is a delight. Noah Centineo as Smasher lends a bit of comic relief, especially his equation with Hawkman, but his budding friendship with Cyclone doesn’t do much. Sarah Shahi as the professor and rebel leader Adrianna Tomaz is superb. The triumvirate of Sarah, her son Amon (Bodhi Sabongui) and her brother Karim (Mohammed Amer) bring some respite as the humane counterparts to the superheroes.

'Black Adam'
is a one-time-watch, especially for Dwayne Johnson and the jaw-dropping visuals and action sequences.

Review: An AI gone rogue threatens to disrupt the world as we know it, and its key is a hotly sought commodity that Ethan Hunt and the IMF must find. This key is the McGuffin for a prescient plot, but audiences aren’t watching ‘Mission Impossible’ films for their riveting stories. Since ‘Ghost Protocol’ (2011), Tom Cruise has been on his own mission as an actor and entertainer – to outdo himself with audacious stunts in each entry. ‘Dead Reckoning Part One’ is no different, where Cruise rides a bike off a cliff, as heavily promoted in the trailers. Naturally, this may appear to be the film's centrepiece, and while it looks jaw-dropping on a big screen, the action has much more in store across its close to 3-hour run-time. The screenplay’s pacing takes a little beating, but the film is thrilling, especially in its climax.

Once again, Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie’s constant need to challenge their respective boundaries result in some increasingly tense set pieces. Paired with the franchise’s iconic theme, they succeed in pushing you to the edge of your seat. Additionally, the plot raises the stakes for Ethan and his team, including Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames) and Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson). Hayley Atwell shines as Grace and is a charming addition who pairs off brilliantly with Cruise’s Ethan, both dramatically and comedically. In fact, this may be the funniest MI film in the franchise so far.

Of course, the star of the show is Tom Cruise, whose running antics are awe-inspiring despite his increasing age. His commitment to doing most of his stunts allows the fight choreography to breathe, and the film is so much better for it. In this year of adrenaline-driven action films, it has become increasingly hard to distinguish one from the other, but Cruise ensures he stands out from the rest. The fact that this franchise still has enough life left in it after seven films without feeling too exhaustive says a great deal about Cruise and McQuarrie’s passionate dedication to action-based blockbusters.

Movie Review: The film is supposed to be in competition with the Harry Potter series. Let's just say, it offers no competition, even though it's directed by Chris Columbus who directed the initial films in the Potter franchise. And that's primarily because the plot fills you with a sense of deja vu. Based on the first book from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the five-book young adult series by Rick Riordan, the plot featuring a bunch of demi-god heroes -- kids born out of the coming-together of Greek gods and humans -- fills you with a sense of deja vu. The adventures are similar, the enemies are familiar, the special effects are less effective and the sum total is a film that engages but doesn't shock and awe....So unlike HP!

Percy a dyslexic kid, fathered by Posiedon, the sea God, is forced to attend half-blood camp (deja vu, didn't we say!) when he is falsely accused by Zeus of stealing a lightning bolt. His mother, a bedraggled human, is kidnapped by weird monsters and sent to Hades, the supernatural underworld, where she is held captive until Percy returns the lightning bolt. And if he fails to do so, the gods will be at war which will send the world into apocalyptic mode, unleashing earthquakes, tornadoes and twisters. All he has to help him are his special skills, his dad's voice and his three friends, demi-goddess Annabeth, goat-man Grover and centaur Pierce Brosnan. Of course, not forgetting the flying shoes and the special pen that metamorphoses into a sword.

Amongst all the fantastical characters that inhabit the film, we would specially like to mention Uma Thurman as the serpent-haired Medusa who walks away with most of our applause as the svelte meanie. Absolutely delightful. For the rest, a word of caution. Don't go looking for Pottermania and you could have some fun with Percymania now.

A word about: Performances: Logan Lerman ain't no Daniel Radcliffe just as Brandon T. Jackson isn't Ron and Alexandra Daddario doesn't come close to Hermione.

Dialogue: Cheesy, uninspired.

Screenplay: Chris Columbus and Rick Riordan fail to create magic and wizardry on screen. They are however adequately engaging.

Special effects: Average. Now that's unforgivable in an Avtaar-ed age.

Inspiration: The film is based on the first book in the five-part series by Rick Riordan.

Review: When Bilbo, Thorin and gang watched in feaR as Smaug (Cumberbatch) flew away to torch Lake Town, little did they realize that their leader Thorin was going mad thanks to 'dragon sickness', lust for the castle's gold and the Arkenstone. He now refuses leave the castle or even honour a commitment to help the people of Lake Town who have fled from their homes.

Meanwhile in Lake Town, Bard (Evans) escapes from imprisonment amidst the chaos. The wizard Gandalf (McKellen) is also freed from captivity after a short and sharp battle with several wraiths at Dol Goldur, thanks to the efforts of Galadriel (Blanchett), Elrond (Weaving) and Saruman (Lee). Sauron himself appears and challenges them, but Galadriel summons up all her abilities and drives him away - for now.

Bard, the people of Lake Town, Gandalf and Legolas eventually make their way to the castle where Thorin is. Thranduil (Pace), leader of the Elves, also has a claim in the castle's treasure and will battle the Dwarves for it. They're all in for shock though, when they realise that a vast army of Orcs have gathered to annihilate them. Amidst all of this, the Arkenstone must not fall into the wrong hands.

The battles are indeed mammoth and this is undoubtedly the most deadly of the Hobbit series. The visuals, sense of immersive fantasy, wonder and detailing, are completely on point. Jackson has managed to magnify all the best elements of the previous films and negate almost all of the melodrama to create a well-balanced and precise presentation that never drags its heels.

There's even a snatch of romance - between Fili (O'Gorman) and Tauriel - as well. Everything that fans will expect to see in such a film is in here, times ten. A grandiose end to the three-part saga.

Review: For a story that is being told since early 1900s, a fresh rendition is pointless unless the makers have anything new to say. It probably is a risk taking up material that is so widely loved. Director David Yates, best known for the mystery and magic of the final four editions of the Harry Potter series, remoulds the titular character. His Tarzan journeys from messy wilderness to the prim insides of a gorgeous English manor. But, he must return to where he belongs and fix everything that has gone wrong in his side of the world. The unnecessary character of George Washington Williams, who researched vastly on Belgian Congo in late 1880s tells Tarzan about the brutal practice of slavery that is prevalent in his native place. To suit the screenplay, Tarzan's fiery wife slips into a damsel in distress role.

It isn't an origin story but the effective flashbacks do take us back to the ape man's past life. It tries to be a sequel and has enough inventiveness to qualify as one.The story shifts between too many sub plots but never loses sight of coherence.

Unlike this year's The Jungle Book which was visually fascinating, this one lacks the visual finesse but makes up for it with the palpable story. The action is done well and the earnestness of Alexander Skarsgard works.

Though one might feel that Yates fails to give his leading man any depth but he sure knows how to make him wear his brawny side in style. This Tarzan has swag and the film gives us an insight into his psyche. The only glitch is that though Tarzan is sincere, his classic roar comes tad too late in the film!
